After School Specials
Remember after school specials? I think that they need to be brought back.
I say this because I've been watching "The Secret Life of an American Teenager" on the ABC Family Channel. Yes, I feel into a summer television trap, but come on Molly Ringwald and the original Bo Duke are in it and that alone is worth at least a cursory glance. While this show is no Juno, it is slightly more realistic in that it shows the ripple effect of a teenage pregnancy beyond just the girl and her immediate family. Plus after every episode the main characters directs teens and parents alike to websites that discuss teen pregnancy and how to prevent. This show is an extended after school special with better production value and more promos.

Anyway this idea of bringing back the after school special is something that I'm going to look into. In a world of Hannah Montana and iCarly, the kiddies need a little something more. Like what to do if your sister becomes a meth head or a focus on kids with same sex parents. These are tough issues and there is no fictional outlets for them. Watch this space for updates.
