Oscar Movie time!!

Last night I started what I'm gonna call "Marathon to See Oscar Movies"
None of these movies has actually been nominated and some may not be at all, but this time of year I feel a pressure (self-imposed) to see all of these movies and I try not to think of the expense.

Saw "The Road", I read the book and had to see it realized on the screen. It did not disappoint (much). When I read the book I envisioned Viggo Mortensen in this role, he can do bleak. The art direction was incredible, washed-out landscapes put you right into the feeling of the book. What I didn't care for were the flashbacks starring Charlize Theron, some I understood, others were gratuitous (theater scene?!). I think the director captivated Cormac McCarthy's tempo and sense of gloom with hope. And really aren't we all afraid of what we would do in the face of total devastation of the earth? Become cannibals or try to out run them?

Here is my list of movies that I want to see/could be in contention for the Oscars. Since they are opening up "Best Movie" category to 10 it will be interesting to see what happens. This is in no particular order of preference

1. Brothers
2. A Single Man (Tom Ford directed, Julianne Moore & Colin Firth, how could I not)
3. Precious
4. Up in the Air
5. The Men Who Stare At Goats
6. Invictus

That's all for now. I'm sure updates will come.
