TV Watching - Being Erica

As usual I've been watching a lot of television, these days it's been on Hulu mainly, but it still counts as tv watching in my opinion. One show I discovered a couple of months ago was "Being Erica", thank you EW Popwatch. What is this show you ask? Well it comes on SoapNet, yes SoapNet but it is not a soap. It's a wonderful Canadian show starring Erin Karpluk, who can also be seen ocassionally on the CW's new show "Life Unexpected". This week marked the end of the second season of "Being Erica" and I'm left hoping that we'll get a season 3.

Why am I so taken with this show? Mainly because when I watched the first season I felt such a strong connection with Erica's character. She's a woman in her early 30's who was a bit adrift in life watching while those she knew seemed to have it all together and she was full of regrets about things that happened in the past big and small. Which is what the show hinges on, if you could go back in time and re-do something how would that change who you are today? I think it's a question that we all ask ourselves, "what if I'd done that differently?". Well thanks to Dr. Thom, Erica makes a list of regrets and she gets to go back to certain situations and have a do-over. What happens in the process is that she learns a crucial lesson about herself and it changes her. And really isn't that what good therapy is supposed to do?

The thing about this show that resonates for me is that we can all evaluate what we've done in the past and move forward or past it and become our better selves (yes, it sounds like Oprah-talk, but I just came up with it). And in general the show is a joy to watch, so I'm hoping that we get another season, because Erica has re-evaluated and made some tough decisions and taking a leap of faith in herself. To me it's inspirational and I can't wait to see what happens next.
