Fall TV Premiere Week - Monday night
Last night marked the official kick-off to Fall TV premiere week. My night was dominated by CBS, despite my sister screaming from another room that I needed to turn to "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC.
We got an hour of "How I Met Your Mother", I thought that second episode was funnier than the first, I man c'mon, Edward 40 hands! Actor Jimmi Simpson playing Marshall's college friend brought the same creepy vibe to HIMYM that he brings to "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". The thing I like about this show is that we get to see these characters evolve but their regressions are just as great. I was sure that how I felt about the writers bringing back the Barney/Robin relationship but I think it will be good overall. In their dynamic the first time, we got to see Barney pining after her not being able to tell her how he felt and now that's been flipped. Added to that is the whole Nora thing. All we know is that Barney is going to get married and that we'll find out to whom by the end of the season. Will it be Robin or Nora? I'm all Team Robin. Yet, she has always been so against marriage. But at the end of the episode Lily comes in and says the bride wants to talk to Ted. If it is Nora why would she ask to speak to Ted? It's all a mystery. Is Lily wearing a bridesmaid's dress or what? I just want to see how this all plays out.
Okay, confession time. I watched "Two and a Half Men". Why? Straight up curiosity that's why. So Rose pushed Charlie on to the tracks at a Paris Metro station and that's how he died. That's what we were to surmise after her speech at the funeral. Those gathered where the myriad female guest stars that Charlie bedded over the course of the show and no one was really sorry to see him go. And how does Ashton Kutcher's character get introduced? By scaring Allen and making him drop Charlie's ashes. Okay. I found nothing funny about the character of Walter Schmidt. He's a tall, well-hung, gorgeous, billionaire, who is pining after his soon to be ex-wife and doesn't know how to talk to the ladies? Um, I don't buy it. So it falls to Allen to give him a confidence boost, one of the least confident television characters ever? No, thanks.
I do have to applaud CBS' genius programming. They could have aired the full hour of "Two and A Half Men" last night instead of two episodes of HIMYM, but they need to keep up people's interest. People will tune in next week to see how Kutcher's character allows Allen to stay in the house. I'm over it.
And now last but not least, "Two Broke Girls" or a newer version of "The Odd Couple" as so many have been saying. I just get this out of the way, this is definitely the better show of Whitney Cummings' two shows this season. I saw "Whitney" on Demand last week and it left me flat. Watching Kat Dennings eviscerate two hipsters in a diner, I practically heard Cummings voice but in a way. My only problem with this show and with most shows that are supposed to be in New York and aren't filmed here is that it looks so unreal. I mean by the end of the episode they had a horse in the yard. This is supposed to be Williamsburg not Queens. I mean a goat would have made more sense in this scenario. That aside I'll definitely give this show more or my time. Though I don't think these girls should be working toward opening yet another cupcake shop.
