Community on hiatus?
So word came down earlier from NBC about the midseason line-up and the most notable changes are that, "Whitney" is being moved to Wednesdays at 8pm, to be followed by "Are You there, Chelsea?" which means that "Up All Night" will now be on Thursday nights. That night will be led by "30 Rock" at 8pm. Which begs the question, what about the folks at Greendale? "Community" is not on the schedule. What does this all mean for Jeff Winger and the gang? Well, right now, not a lot.
Let's look at the bigger picture. With critically acclaimed, Tina Fey led "30 Rock" in the 8pm time slot up against "Big Bang Theory" on CBS, "Parks & Recreation" is getting a much better lead-in. Same goes for "Up All Night" which will now follow "The Office" (though their ratings have been slipping). The Chelsea Handler show is an unknown entity at the moment, so it is hard to say, but I have not read kind things about this show and well I think that people are shocked that "Whitney" got a full season order. Still what does that mean for "Community"? I look at this situation the same way as ABC's canceled Matthew Perry show "Mr. Sunshine", they are going to play these shows and when it fails, "Community" is back in business. Yes, it is bad to hope that a show will fail, but much like my unwavering love for "Cougar Town", I need to have "Community" in my life, it has some of the most inventive storytelling on TV right now.
I also think that NBC is also desperate to turn around their flailing ratings situation, them being the only network to have already cancelled two new shows "Playboy Club" and "Free Agents". I think overall it is a smart idea for Thursday nights, but I feel like that should be an all comedy night, they should nix the 10pm drama, it's been a dud for them since the hey day of "ER".
