Mixtape Mondays - Power to the women

This morning I woke up a little angry. My last dream had me hog tying a man a la Dolly Patton in "9 to 5". I'm not usually an angry person but reading that a male politician sought not only to qualify different kinds of rape, while also stating that a woman somehow secretes a magical potion to keep them from being pregnant in this scenario, all in an effort to defend his stance on abortion. Unbelievable.  Then I was sad, upon seeing on Twitter that director Tony Scott had committed suicide over the weekend. As a lover of film I've seen most of his and was genuinely shocked and sadden when I read it. And then I was upset with myself for procrastinating on a project thus leaving me no time to go for a run this morning. Small potatoes compared to the other two, I know, but I have goals and need/want to stay on course.

I wanted to create a playlist that speaks to female empowerment and not just in an Ani DiFranco, Riot Grrrl kind of way. This one is dedicated to Phyllis Diller, a real pioneer for women in entertainment and a great broad all around. She died peacefully in her sleep this morning, which is all any of us can hope for.
